about Us
We are a social promotion association founded in 1990 by a group of lawyers, legal experts, and scholars specializing in immigration, asylum, and citizenship. We participate in and organize research, studies, and training courses to raise awareness and skills, promoting a culture of integration across the region through the protection of rights. We develop advocacy actions to change discriminatory laws that conflict with our Constitution and the international conventions Italy has signed. We expose and combat rights violations through strategic litigation.
Mission
Protecting and promoting the equality and human rights of foreign individuals is our primary goal. Our work focuses on areas where fundamental rights, freedom of movement, and the right to asylum are violated or compromised. Alongside our efforts in Italy, we operate on a transnational level, collaborating with other organizations through strategic litigation before European and international courts, developing projects with a specific Euro-Mediterranean focus, and maintaining particular attention to violations at internal and external borders as well as in hotspots.

Since 2008, ASGI has been promoting a legal support and monitoring service to combat ethnic, racial, and religious discrimination in Italy. The Anti-discrimination Service operates through a central coordination office based in Milan, several regional branches, and a network of professionals across the country.
Over time, the Anti-Discrimination Service has been supported by the Open Society Institute Foundation, Otto per Mille of the Waldensian Church, Charlemagne Foundation, and the Sigrid Rausing Trust.
Since 2019, ASGI has been promoting an orientation and legal counseling service for foreign individuals and those working with foreign clients to provide support in procedures for obtaining passports. Additionally, the Passport Service includes updates to the guide dedicated to passport issuance procedures, featuring detailed sheets with useful information for contacting consular authorities of various countries and a specific guide for correcting passport information for Bangladeshi citizens.
The Passport Service is supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.
